Before you install
Choose the Windows server that will host File It and the authoritative cabinet storage path. The server installation owns licensing, encrypted Cloud operations, signed updates, and workstation pairing.
- Install on one supported Windows server controlled by the purchasing firm.
- Keep the cabinet on protected server storage, not a consumer sync folder.
- Confirm a separate backup destination and record who will administer File It.
Download the signed installers
Open My File It with the purchasing account and use Downloads. Verify the server installer identifies Blu Software LLC before running it.
- Use the server package only on the authorized File It server.
- Use the workstation package on staff computers that need desktop integration.
- If Windows shows a different or missing publisher, stop and contact support.
Activate the server
My File It shows a Tenant ID and a separate one-time activation code. Enter both on the server. The code is consumed after successful activation and must not be copied into support tickets.
- Tenant ID identifies the firm; it is not the secret activation code.
- Activation authorizes one active server installation.
- After activation, Sync Entitlement should show the correct license and Install ID.
Finish first-login setup
Create the initial File It administrator, confirm the cabinet path, and sign in through the normal server interface.
- Use a unique administrator credential.
- Create a small test client and folder before importing production data.
- Pair one workstation and confirm that it reaches the intended server.
Prove recovery before importing
Create a local recovery point, run recovery preview, and confirm that the preview matches the test cabinet.
- A completed upload is not the same as a tested restore.
- Recovery preview authenticates without replacing the active cabinet.
- Record the test date and repeat recovery testing regularly.
