Estimate on the authorized server
The server calculates protected size and object count locally, then reports only operational totals used for planning.
- Run the estimate after a representative import.
- Treat the estimate as a point-in-time planning value.
- Choose a storage allowance above the current protected requirement.
Enroll and sync
Select storage and retention in My File It, complete monthly billing, then return to File It and sync entitlement.
- Storage upgrades are immediate and prorated.
- Approved reductions begin at renewal and cannot authorize early deletion.
- If entitlement still says Cloud is not included, sync once and use the displayed reference code if it fails.
Create the first encrypted recovery point
File It encrypts locally before transfer. The cloud receives opaque encrypted objects, authenticated metadata, and operational totals—not plaintext filenames or document contents.
- Keep the server running until completion reaches 100 percent.
- Review transferred bytes, retry count, and the new recovery point.
- An unchanged backup may reuse already stored encrypted objects.
Run recovery preview
Select a completed recovery point and request preview. File It downloads, authenticates, and decrypts locally without touching the active cabinet.
- Confirm the recovery-point timestamp and protected size.
- Confirm the previewed client, folder, and document counts.
- A successful preview is the minimum evidence that the recovery point is usable.
Restore deliberately
A production restore is separate from preview. Protect the active cabinet, select a safe destination, and require an explicit administrator decision.
- Never treat preview as an automatic overwrite.
- Prefer restoring to an alternate protected location for comparison first.
- Contact support before restoring while the cabinet is serving active users.
